Augill Castle
Wedding Photographer
Are you looking for Wedding Photographer at Augill Castle?
I’m Andy Wade, an award winning photographer, and Augill Castle is the stuff of storybooks: a 19th-century fairytale castle in the Eden Valley, on the Cumbria-Yorkshire border, with turrets, battlements and views across to the Pennines. It’s run as a relaxed family home, so a wedding here feels magical without ever feeling stiff.
My approach is all about storytelling in a relaxed documentary style, focusing on the real emotions, and creative yet natural portraits. The weddings you see across Andy Wade Photography are all real days I’ve documented, so what you see here is exactly how I’d photograph yours.
Turrets, battlements and a properly relaxed fairytale. Let’s create something beautiful together at Augill Castle.

Need the perfect sunset for your day!? I can provide that, too!! SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
Augill Castle Wedding Venue
Inside Augill Castle
Augill Castle is the stuff of storybooks: a 19th-century fairytale castle in the Eden Valley, on the Cumbria-Yorkshire border, with turrets, battlements and views across to the Pennines. It's run as a relaxed, family-friendly castle stay, which makes it perfect for a wedding where everyone gets to actually enjoy the place for a whole weekend.
Inside, it's all grandeur without the stuffiness: panelled rooms, open fires, a great hall for the ceremony and celebration, and bedrooms scattered through the towers and wings for your guests. Taking the castle over exclusively means the whole place is yours, and that's a feeling few venues can give you.
Turrets, fires and fairytale portraits
The castle sits in 15 acres of grounds in the upper Eden Valley, with the Pennines on one side and the Howgill Fells on the other. Lawns, terraces and mature trees give us everything we need for portraits, and the castle itself, all towers and battlements, is the backdrop every fairytale wedding photo wants.
The rhythm of an Augill wedding is wonderfully unhurried. Because everyone stays, nobody rushes off, and the party has a habit of stretching happily into the small hours. It's less like hiring a venue and more like borrowing a very grand family home.

The History of Augill Castle
A Victorian folly
Augill Castle was built in 1841 as a Victorian gentleman's folly: a country house dressed as a castle, complete with turrets and battlements, overlooking the Eden Valley near Kirkby Stephen. The Victorians loved a romantic gesture, and Augill is a proper one, built for pleasure and show rather than defence.
Its early history was colourful, including a spell under an owner who dreamed of founding a school before falling into bankruptcy, and the castle passed through several hands as the decades rolled on. Like many grand country houses, it had to reinvent itself to survive.
Built for fun in 1841
That reinvention arrived when the current owners restored Augill as a relaxed, family-run castle hotel and wedding venue. The restoration kept every bit of the drama while making the place genuinely comfortable, and it's now one of the most distinctive places to get married in Cumbria, winning fans far beyond the Eden Valley.
How To Get To Augill Castle
Augill Castle is at Leacett Lane, near Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria, postcode CA17 4DE. From the M6, leave at junction 38 (Tebay) and follow the A685 towards Kirkby Stephen, then local signs; the castle is a few minutes from the town.
Kirkby Stephen station, on the scenic Settle to Carlisle line, is a short taxi ride away, and there's parking at the castle.
Why book Andy Wade Photography?
You’ve found your venue, and now you want the day photographed as it actually happens, not staged around the camera. My style is natural and documentary: genuine moments, real emotion, and the laughter, tears and everything in between, documented quietly while you get on with enjoying it.
As your Augill Castle wedding photographer, I’m committed to creating a collection that reflects the true emotion of your day, ensuring you have memories to cherish forever. Let’s tell your unique story together.
I couldn’t be more excited to join you on your wedding day at Augill Castle, document your day, and capture all the little moments that make it truly yours.
