Matt & Karl // Victoria Warehouse

Two men walking into a decorated brick venue

There was a beautiful contrast from Tarn Hows in Cumbria for their engagement shoot, to the contemporary, urban space of Victoria Warehouse for Karl & Matt’s wedding. As a documentary wedding photographer the approach was the same but the results were wonderfully different. Camera, lights, actions; this wedding had it all.

Industrial pillars donned the fairy lights which gleamed as the grooms greeted their guests. The beautifully dark, atmospheric and contemporary Bays space awaited as Karl kept Matt waiting in the wings with a cinematic slideshow of old photos. Both grooms walked separately down the aisle but were brought together by our celebrant, to a tirade of tears and lots of laughter. The documentary approach to the ceremony needed some flash work amongst the atmospheric lighting but that gave some amazingly creative opportunities, too.

After some creative portraits in the Bays it was time for a relaxing walk outside of Victoria Warehouse. Salford offers the perfect backdrop for contemporary wedding portraits. Karl and Matt wandered through the sunshine, just stopping here and there to soak up their day together. The bright light shone on a beautifully bright couple – inside and out. And from the outside to the inside the light switched again to the party and it was back into The Bays.

With original brickwork lovely restored and wonderful acoustics waiting it was almost time for the band. But before then more tears and cheers flowed at the emotional speeches. After much laughter – and a few fantastic faces from Karl – the wedding breakfast preceded a high octane party. I love capturing the energy and spirit of the party all with a natural, but creative, approach with my camera. Time to get caught up in it all and somewhere in my mind I’m still there. What a day…!!
