Kathy & Manoj // Gray’s Court

What an amazing two days it was with Kathy and Manoj at Grays Court Hotel. Set in the exclusive Minster Quarter, it is just a cobblestone walk from York Minster. It was that walk that Kathy and Manoj wanted capturing for their portraits; that coupled with documentary style wedding photography that told the story of their special weekend. I love being part of such an intimate wedding.

It was a beautiful family occasion with their nearest and dearest all together at dinner the first night after the day was spent on a fun photo mission around the city of York. I was the judge! It was a tough job and definitely a few wedding photographers in the making! Preceding that it was a colourful walk to York Minster, the ladies dressed in sarees as a homage to Manoj’s late mum.

The wedding day was perfect with an outdoor ceremony. Even the public could get a view from the walkway on the castle wall that skirts this beautiful garden. The ceremony took place to Etta James’s “At Last” and at confetti time the surprise New York Brass Band made their entrance into the fray. The wedding breakfast brought cheers from the big, long table before it was time for the heartfelt speeches.

The previous day we’d shot a portrait in the place where Kathy and Manoj had their first date. It added to the visual story and wanted to capture. And, after all the natural, candid style photography of the day I set up a special portrait in the garden of Grays Court. Just a few minutes for something a little special to add to this wonderful wedding of two wonderful people.
