Emily & Kev // Todmorden Town Hall
When Emily and Kev approached me to shoot their wedding in our home town of Todmorden, it was always going to be special for me. I was married in Todmorden Town Hall, too! My documentary style of wedding photography was just what they wanted. With the prospect of going up to Bridestones Rocks for a sunset shoot all I had to do was order the weather for the day.
The plan was simple. Capture the preparations at home, the marriage ceremony at Todmorden Town Hall and then back to the house for a chilled summer style wedding party. Emily and Kev were at home together with children Clara and Finn to start the day. After a spin of the bridesmaids’ dresses it was off to the ceremony. Dogs were all part of the day and The ‘Bark Times’ told of Emily and Kev’s tale (or “tail’!) so far!
And so to home. The dogs, the cakes, the buffet, the ice cream and a wonderfully intimate wedding party were all waiting to share good times in the afternoon sun. As a wedding photographer I love to feel part of the day and just blend in like a guest. Capturing those candid moments makes the story of the wedding day that much more genuine. A speech or two, some family shots and the smashing of the piñata later we were ready to chase the sunset.
It was on. The sun was going to set in clear(ish) skies. My style of photography blends documentary with natural portraiture. There was no need to pose Emily and Kev. They walked as I shot and with the help of a little creative flash set up danced on the rocks before sitting together to watch the sun go down. Perfect.
