Sally & Matt

A Festive Wedding at Forest Side

We love Christmas and we love food at Christmas! When it’s Michelin star food and a Michelin star couple in Sally & Matt, then it is little surprise this wedding at Forest Side in the Lake District ended with a cracking good feed and will stay long into the memory on cosy Christmas nights.

Lake District Wedding Photography

A wedding photographer in The Lake District means one thing – it can be wet! Driving to Forest Side, a magical retreat surrounded by the stunning countryside of Wordsworth’s beloved Grasmere, a rainbow pierced the sky. I captured it there and then, which is what wedding photography is about; capturing the spontaneous in front of the camera lens. It’s about people, emotions and seeing the unexpected in a fast-flowing day. And if people are key elements in that day, then Sally and Matt proved that it can rain all day and you can still get rainbows.

Winter Wedding at Forest Side

Forest Side’s huge windows let in beautiful light and the spacious grounds that surround the gothic mansion provide layers of depth to my bride and groom portraits. Amongst the James Mackie designed interior with its luxury Lincrusta wall coverings, Sally and Matt made it personal by dotting about their own framed photos. Father Christmas baubles, crackling fires and a Michelin menu from head chef Kevin Tickle completed the scene. Sally and Matt had their own rooms, shared excitement with groomsmen, bridesmaids and parents before a winter wonderland-style wedding in the dining room.

Photographing Food and Fireworks

I love a natural, documentary approach to wedding photography and adding in colour and a sense of energy to my work is really important. Rustic menus, wooden detail and waiters serving a nine course Michelin menu; champagne flowing and Sally’s choir singing all fed back into a visual feast of love. Finishing off with fireworks; great explosions of energy in the Lake District’s night sky. A true feast of wedding photography!
