Sally & Matt

A Festive Wedding at The Forest Side

We love Christmas, we love food at Christmas. When wedding photography meets Christmas, it meets Michelin star food and a Michelin star couple in Sally & Matt, then it is little surprise this wedding will stay long into the memory on cosy Christmas nights.

Lake District Wedding Photography

Being a wedding photographer in The Lake District means there’s one thing that you have to keep in mind. It can be wet. And true to form as I drove to Forest Side, a magical retreat surrounded by the the stunning countryside side of Wordsworth’s beloved Grasmere, a rainbow pierced the sky across the fells. I had to jump out of the car and capture it there and then. Wedding photography is about capturing the spontaneous in front of the camera lens; it’s about people, emotions and seeing the unexpected in a day that has a well known format. And if people, and personalities, are key elements then Sally and Matt proved that it can rain all day and still you get rainbows. What an incredible couple for an incredible day.

Winter Wedding at Forest Side

Forest Side’s huge windows let in beautiful light, the spacious grounds that surround the recently renovated gothic mansion provide multiple layers of depth to my bride and groom portraits. The  James Mackie designed interior with Herdwick Wool carpets and luxury Lincrusta wall coverings made a home for Sally and Matt’s framed photos that they’d dotted around the hotel as if home. It was so cosy and Christmas like. Father Christmas baubles, crackling fires and a Michelin menu from head chef Kevin Tickle set the scene. Sally and Matt had their own rooms, shared nervous excitement with groomsmen, bridesmaids and parents before a winter wonderland style wedding in the dining room. It was full of emotion.

Photographing Food and Fireworks

I love a natural, documentary approach to my wedding photography and adding in the colour and sense of energy to the physical photos is really important. So rustic looking menus and wood detail, waiters hurrying a 9 course Michelin menu along; champagne flowing and Sally’s choir singing all fed back into a visual feast of love they showed on the day. Finishing off with fireworks; great explosions of energy in the Lake District’s night sky. A true feast of wedding photography!
