Kelly & Richard
A Winter Wedding at Sandhole Oak Barn
Sandhole Oak Barn is a wedding venue in a rural setting in 400 acres of rolling Cheshire countryside. Designed specifically with weddings in mind, the venue was completed in 2005 and is a family run business. Aside the main Oak Barn itself, you have the Small Barn, Dressing Room and a B&B on site so the main party can stay over night and have rooms for the bridal preparations. With the picturesque Clock Tower, beautiful barn side lake and the gorgeous oak tree lit at night you have an amazing rustic, barn style wedding venue.
Wedding Photography at Sandhole Oak Barn
Kelly and her bridesmaids were getting ready in The Dressing Room. With two big rooms it was easy to fit the flower girls, the hair and make up artists and a very nervous Kelly and her mum, Tina. At the other end of the building, in The Small Barn, Richard was with his groomsmen and a few pre ceremony Budweisers. I love having both the bride and groom close so that I can document the story of both preparations. As well that natural documentary wedding photogprahy there was also time to do a few classic group photos of the lads and some beautiful portraits of Kelly.
Flower Girl Tears at The Ceremony
Once Richard was in place Tina walked a stunning looking Kelly down the aisle. She had such a radiant smile and I looked to capture her natural expressions with the camera. These are genuinely beautiful moments which tell the feeling and story of the wedding day. Those genuine moments were added to when Charlotte, the flower girl, read some words at the ceremony. She read beautifully and then began to cry happy tears. I felt quite emotional as I captured the tears rolling down her cheeks and Kelly came to give her a big hug. The big hugs and tears continued after the confetti was thrown over the happy couple as they left The Oak Barn and out into a not-so-chilly December afternoon. After a few natural portraits next to the lake it was back inside for the wedding breakfast.
Big Speeches, The Party and Night Photography
The speeches were so funny. I love capturing all the guests’ reactions. Tina told a few choice stories about Kelly and the the two best men were merciless with Richard. By now the December night was set in and the first dance kicked off the evening celebrations. What a party! With a few choice settings of the camera I was right in the centre of the crowd creating a really energetic look to the photos – they didn’t stop partying! There was time to set up a special off-camera-flash shot with Kelly and Richard. Sandhole Oak Barn has a huge oak tree on the other side of the lake which is lit at night. With a simple set up the bride and groom had the shot they wanted and a fitting end to a brilliant wedding.
