Amber & Dan

A Lake District Wedding at Lodore Falls

The Lake District is my second home. I know the places and the fells and have a love of the exploring this beautiful landscape with my family. So being a wedding photographer in the Lake District is very special. When Amber and Dan commissioned me to photograph their day we got together to look at their vision. Into a natural, documentary photographic style they still wanted some portraits that told of that Lake District landscape.

A Lake District Wedding Photographer

Lodore Falls Hotel is in the Borrowdale Valley. Just south of Keswick Lodore Falls has a Garden Gazebo, a waterfall and is lakeside to Derwent Water. Knowing the Lakes meant I also knew of Ashness Bridge and Surprise View. Just a few mins away this is a glorious view that, if the Lake District weather is kind, the camera needs to capture a bride and groom in. After capturing both the bride and groom getting ready, the bridesmaids popping the proseco and Dan’s flawless vows in the wedding ceremony it was outside to let Amber and dan just mingle and celebrate. The moment then came to shoot off and have a few portraits together as we’d planned. I do not shoot hours of staged photos so 20 minutes later we were all done.

A Wedding Reception at Lodore Falls Hotel

The reception, like the ceremony, was held ai the Lodore Hotel itself. The champagne continued to pour and the light lowered to the east and the sunbeams ran along the shores of Derwent water. So whilst I was enjoying shooting family and friends just in the these beautiful moments, I caught Amber’s eye and we said “Shall we do a quick shot as the sun sets?”. So a spontaneous six minutes later we’d nipped over to the shores of Derwent and, as the last the rays of sun lipped over High Spy, we have the perfect Lake District portrait. I stayed long into the night with Amber and Dan. It was a fantastic party and, like 90% of that day I just shot everything as natural as possible but for those few portraits we’d managed to get the perfect photos. The title shot is them soaking up their wedding day with the view out to Bassenthwaite and the Lake District from the the Surprise View. The perfect view.
