Nicole & Nathan
A Secret Wedding in Gretna Green
Gretna Green is most famous for weddings, following the 1754 Marriage Act, which prevented couples under the age of 21 marrying in England or Wales without their parents’ consent. As it was still legal in Scotland to marry, couples began crossing the border into Scotland and their first stop was the Famous Blacksmiths Shop, Gretna Green.
Marriage Ceremony in Gretna Green
Nicole and Nathan have replanned their big day celebrations for April in ’22. But that wasn’t before a chance request. At the famous Blacksmiths Shop in Gretna Green a couple about to tie the knot quick style asked Nicole and Nathan to be their witnesses. That gave Nicole and Nathan the idea to take their vows in front of the old smithy marriage anvil with just their closest of family.
Wedding Photography in Gretna
Specialising in natural, social documentary style wedding photography this was the perfect setting and scenario to tell the perfect story. Starting at The Gretna Green Hotel I met Nicole and Nathan for the bridal and groom preparations before heading to the Blacksmith shop. The weather wasn’t playing ball but when we took five minutes to have a few shots at the Courtship Maze the rainbow presented itself just at the right time.
Emotions at Gretna Green Hotel
After a very special ceremony, a quick ride in the wedding car and a few selfies to surprise their friends it was off to Gretna Green Hotel. After some very relaxed family photos with the mother and father of the groom and bride – plus my new assistant – it was back to the hotel for the wedding breakfast. It was such a wonderfully intimate occasion, the speeches very touching and providing a few happy tears before the cutting of the cake. There’s no secret that the party in 2022 is bound to be brilliant.
